The Sanchaya, a tranquil, 19th-century colonial-style beachfront property on the island of Bintan, a 50 min ferry ride from Singapore.
While the estate is the most luxurious resort on the Indonesian Island, stepping foot onto the property evokes feelings of being in another world, away from the hustle and bustle of Singapore and one that seeks to celebrate the history and culture of Southeast Asia.
The Sanchaya Meaning “collection” in Sanskrit, is home to 29 beautiful villas and suites plus a stunning four-bedroom private beachfront residence with spectacular views of the South China Sea - which will have you feeling you’re in a friends luxurious private estate as opposed to a resort.
The opulent resort spreads over 9.6 beachfront hectares and also features a clubhouse, two restaurants and 24-hour in-villa dining, a bar with its own cigar and shisha collection, wine cellar, function space, spa, fitness centre, beachside yoga pavilion and croquet lawn. The Sanchaya’s award-winning design melds the elegance of the Orient with European refinement and references Southeast Asia’s rich history and culture in its artwork, antiques, books, and other artifacts and furnishings.
The décor of the property is impressive from the moment you arrive. From the grounds of the property to the furniture, every feature is individually handcrafted in Indonesia and beautifully appointed - it will make you re-consider renovating your home in the same decor. Furthermore, the decorative items & artwork which are scattered in all of the rooms and throughout the estate will make you feel like you are in a museum rather than a resort.
The beautiful suites are located in the main building in The Great House and are filled with natural light. But the pièce de résistance is your private verandah which is the best place to relax. With its french doors and black and white lounge, you will be treated to the fresh ocean breeze and breathtaking views. The bathroom is exquisite in its own right, handmade ceramic tiles lead to the room’s centrepiece, a Lefroy Brooks claw-foot bathtub, which is stocked with Aesop toiletries.
One of the standout features of the estate is the 50-metre-long, salt-chlorinated infinity pool - situated in front of the main building and surrounded by palm trees. Lined with submerged daybeds overlooking the sea there is no greater spot to relax and spend your day. Here, it is hard to not feel relaxed when a pool attendant promptly delivers a picnic basket containing two bottles of still and sparkling water, sunscreen, after-sun lotion and the enticing cocktail menu.
What we also love is that The Sanchaya financially support and actively volunteer at local hospitality schools and children's homes on the island of Bintan. Not only do they purify their own water, they use glass bottles, thereby saving over 100,000 plastic bottles per year & by Participating in daily beach cleans and growing their own herbs and vegetable gardens they are making a positive impact on the local community and environment.
The Sanchaya welcomes those after an indulgent and authentic experience in a destination for the affluent and the lovers of all the great things in life: food, drinks, sun, and wellness. Relax, recharge, and nourish your senses in an incredible setting with extraordinary service and sea views.
